Ireland signs Multilateral Convention on Mutual Administrative Assistance in Tax Matters

Ireland has become the 21st country to sign the Multilateral Convention on Mutual Administrative Assistance in Tax Matters, as amended by its 2010 Protocol

Brian Hayes T.D. Minister of State at the Department of Finance, signed the Convention for Ireland during a 30 June ceremony in the margins of a high-level tax meeting at the OECD.

The Convention offers governments valuable tools for fighting offshore tax evasion and avoidance. It provides a multilateral basis for a wide range of inter-governmental administrative assistance, including information exchange on request, automatic exchange of information, simultaneous tax examinations, assistance in tax collection and service of documents.

The amended Convention is fully aligned with the internationally agreed standards on transparency and exchange of information for tax purposes, and has been open to all countries worldwide since 1 June.
