Easier tax-debt collection in Europe

According to a legislative proposal of Netherlands, EU Countries are going to assist each other with the collection of outstanding tax debts

The proposal will become effective as from 1 January 2012.

People and capital are becoming increasingly mobile, hampering tax-debt collection at a national level. A debtor can for instance escape paying by going abroad or by transferring his assets abroad. This legislative proposal broadens the options for tax-collection, enabling for instance municipalities to collect debts such as parking tax from people who have moved abroad.

Technical communication facilities and procedures will also be brought into line with current developments. The Council of Ministers has agreed to submit the legislative proposal to the Council of State for advice.
